Lonesome George was about a 100 years old when his heart stopped recently in the Galapagos Islands. He was the last turtle of his kind.
This giant turtle – chelonoidis abingdonii – lived on the Pinta isle, in the Colón archipelago (Galapagos Islands). He was found in 1971 and deserved his nickname like no one.
We love turtles, once we told you about how we like to watch marine species while they swim and we receive the news of the passing of the last specimen of a majestic species with special sadness.
Lonesome George was so old, so big, so from a planet before ours. He was a poetic beast. A piece of our heart is with him.
