Oh, the cupcake trend… we don’t know yet if cupcakes are getting established as a traditional dessert in Mexico or if they are going out of style.
One thing is true though, places specialized in serving them are multiplying quickly and since we love them, we wanted to propose a cupcake tour around different establishments in Mexico City.

At La Cupcakería they say two things about themselves: they bake everyday and they are the favorites of famous people. La Cupcakería started with one shop in the colonia Condesa in 2011 and now you can find them everywhere in the city. In this pastry store there are wholemeal varieties and a drink menu that’s just as sweet and colorful as the cupcakes. We’re fans of the milkshakes.

It also started as a local store in La Condesa and it has also been growing. The owner is Tom Grant, a Canadian who missed homemade cupcakes and decided to make them himself. At any branch of Cupcakes by Tom you can have your cupcake with coffee, cold drinks or a chai tea and at El Palacio de Hierro you can find them to-go. The list of branches is also available at their official website.

The thing the specialized cupcake bakeries have in common is that they are in love with creamy colorful cupcakes and this one is no exception. Although the reflectors here are also firmly on the dessert, first (or after) you can eat something like a salad or a sandwich. They are on the colonia Escandón.
Do you like cupcakes?
