A few restful days after London Fashion Week, I had the pleasure to visit The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor exhibition at Christie’s in London which was opened to the public for three short days, before touring to the next city the exhibition offered an insight into the private collection of Hollywood’s most glamourous star which features her jewels, fashion and art.
One of the most anticipated auctions in history and will be offered at a series of sales in New York and London from December onwards, as an avid fine jewellery fan I was there to view the rarely seen ‘The Crown Jewels of Hollywood’ – Elizabeth Taylor’s collection of iconic diamonds, gemstones, historic jewels, one of a kind creations. With an exceptional great taste the storied collection is estimated to achieve well in excess of $30 million.
(Left): La Peregrina – One of the most important, historic pearls in the world. Discovered in the 1500s in the Gulf of Panama, the pear shaped pearl became part of the crown jewels of Spain, Richard Burton famously purchased the pearl for Elizabeth Taylor at auction in 1969 for $37,000. (Right): The Elizabeth Taylor Diamond – This 33.19 carats ring was a gift from Richard Burton in 1968, worn everyday in her life, probably one of the biggest diamond in the world.
An Art Nouveau enamel and multi-gem brooch by Boucheron.

(Left): The Cartier Ruby Suite. (Right): The Taj Mahal Diamond – This heart shaped diamond is believed to have been a gift from the ruler Emperor Shah Jahan. At the age of 35, it is believed that the young prince presented the diamond to his beloved wife, Mumtaz-i-Mahal. The Emperor’s grief at her death just four years later was – in her memory he commissioned the majestic Taj Mahal – one of the seven wonders of the wold.
