In my opinion, Jane Birkin is one of the luckiest women on Earth. After all, who can get up on the stage and say “Until the day he died, Serge wrote songs for me?”
I guess it is normal for me to be jealous of her as my favorite song is Ces Petits Riens by Serge Gainsbourg. Of course, I love Jane Birkin as much as I’m jealous of her. So when I heard that she would be coming to İstanbul for her Jane Birkin sings Serge Gainsbourg via Japan tour, I bought a ticket on the first day and I found myself at Babylon.
Proving why she is an icon, one more time, she gave an amazing concert for an hour and a half, also telling little stories about herself and Serge Gainsbourg. She gave me the blues with ‘Les Amours Perdues’ and made us all laugh while singing ‘Comic Strip’ with her cute japanese violinist screaming “Shebam! Pow! Blop! Wizz!”.
But the climax of the night, for me, was when she sang ‘Ces Petits Riens’. It was an unforgettable event, listening to such significant songs from the person who probably was closest to Serge Gainsbourg.
I will always remember this night with a huge smile on my face.
