The ultimate wardrobe system

by Be-Blogger U.K. on: October 31st, 2012

Have you ever dreamt of owning an ultimate wardrobe system, that could display your trophy sartorial attires and accessories in a bespoke-boutiquey way?  Last month after London Fashion Week I went to see my friend and ”Britain’s Best Dressed Man by Esquire UK”, Matthew Zorpas performed a live outfit change in collaboration with Hierve at Design Junction.  Hierve a boutique design consultancy based in Mexico City and London, showcased its ultimate freestanding wardrobe system featuring its contemporary storage solutions and conventional glass cabinets.  If you are into craftsmanship and contemporary art, this could be the one.

Hurricane Sandy has finally hit landfall in New York City at midnight (UK time), catching live tweets, Instagram and online coverages all night seemed surreal, a real life experience through words and pictures.  At least 20 people died and millions are left with power, the storm hasn’t left yet it is heading towards North West and to Canada where it finishes off, the city itself became a scene like from the movie Apocalypse, a scale of natural disaster is rarely seen in a vibrant city like this compared to the man-made terrorist attack in 9-11.  Streets are littered with cars and debris, road tunnels blocked, underground subways also blocked with heavy floods (now receding), some damaged infrastructures, a tanker ship beached on the shoreline…goodness how will it stay upright or afloat?  Let’s pray to our American friends, BE STRONG AMERICA!!!!

First and foremost, from the UK I would like to say hello to Hurricane Sandy an unfriendly giant beast swirling in the sky heading towards the east coast cities; Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Cape May and New York City.  However, Sandy has already caused some serious damages in the Caribbean, many few were missing and killed.  Mass evacuations has been set, hundreds will face days without electricity, subways closed, for US ready to embrace the windy beast.  I wish my American friends safe and well.

Go away Sandy!

 Benetton Style: Camo jacket

by Be-Blogger U.K. on: October 29th, 2012

Before I grab my Winter coat and talk about Winter fashion, oversized military camouflage jackets has always been a popular trend to grunge lovers especially of that in non-existent Summer, jacket teamed with Dr Martens, hot pants and bare legs, popular sightings in hip areas such as Brick Lane, Shoreditch and mass populated shopping district in Oxford Street.  I bought mine, a vintage camo jacket from a vintage store in East London, I teamed the jacket with a vintage belt cinched around the waist, boyfriend jeans with hems rolled up, spiky lace up ankle boots and bright coloured investment bag.  How would you style yours?

 Secret Paradise

by Be-Blogger U.K. on: October 26th, 2012

I stumbled upon a secret garden in Hampstead by accident, which I wish to remain a secret for my own greed.  Pergola and Hill Garden is known as a secret oasis or paradise to local residents, very secretive and tranquil with its stunning Edwardian pergola structure overlooking Hampstead Heath, built by Thomas Mawson.  It is advisable to visit the garden in Spring and Summer, where the pergola would be fully covered with abundance of colourful blooms, here’s a thing …don’t tell anyone about this place…keep it a secret.

 Halloween

by Be-Blogger U.K. on: October 25th, 2012

I’m guessing the whole nation is preparing for festive Halloween spirits on the 31st of November, making personalizing costumes, carving out pumpkins, street and home decorations, parties, sugary treats and the most important tradition of all… is trick or treating.  Although, Halloween in the UK is known to be less OTT compared to the ambitious and traditionalists in the US and extravagant halloween costume parties in parts of Asia, for crafty enthusiasts i.e DIY is a perfect time to create something their own especially of that DIY has created a massive trend and movement.  Typically accessible media platforms such as DIY blogs and Pinterest are easy and fast to get inspirations from.  So, what are you wearing this Halloween?

 Dried flowers

by Be-Blogger U.K. on: October 23rd, 2012

The end of the Summer season has finally come to an end this weekend when we turn the clock one hour forward, yes we will have less daylight and as for the flower lovers and enthusiasts like myself, we prefer to see Summer clusters to last throughout cold Winter months (of course it’s not possible) such as these popularities; Chrysanthemum, cockscomb, freesia, hydrangea, heather, iris and ever so popular peony.

Ever thought of preserving Summer flowers to use for floral arrangement, such as personalising a candle? Cut lavender is naturally dried whereas hydrangeas and roses are perfect for drying, the preserving/drying technique can be tricky for some if you have no patience.  Here’s a tip, use a hair spray, spray over the buds and flower heads, it will discolour and shrink throughout the weeks, and leave the dried flowers in an empty vase. Voila!

 Wool Week

by Be-Blogger U.K. on: October 18th, 2012

It’s Wool Week this week, it’s a camapaign to raise awareness about the benefits and versatility of wool in fashion and furnishing industry.  To support local farmers, retailers, local businesses that depends on wool industry, particularly that we have over 100 wool mills still in operation across the United Kingdom.

A while ago, I was fortunate to visit Abraham Moon & Sons Ltd, a family owned company based in the suburbs of Guiseley in West Yorkshire, home to woollen and worsted mills.   It was my first time witnessing how fabrics are manufactured in a production plant in real life, but seen the live action of a working (and very noisy) power loom in the BBC’s adaption ‘North and South‘ written by British novelist Elizabeth Gaskell.  Moon representing as the last standing woollen mill in Guiseley, with dyeing, blending, carding, spinning, weaving and finishing processes all taking place on one site, and they are exceptionally proud of their ‘Made in Britain’ heritage.

Ever heard of this phenomenon KPOP song the ‘Gangnam Style‘ by rapper Psy?  Sure you have.  I first heard the single and music video in the middle of Summer, my reaction? I felt a chill down to my spin, it was cheesy….I mean very cheesy but hilarious, ridiculous but amazing.  The song and silly horse riding moves became the dance anthem across the globe, it became the most watched Kpop video and has been viewed over 450 millions times on Youtube, beating Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.  Charted at number 1’s in most of the countries, this included United Kingdom.
