The trouble with going to Provence…

by United Blogs of Benetton on: June 12th, 2010

…is that you don’t ever want to come home!I know everyone says it but seriously, I did not want to come home. Provence gets me every time; I just love it there, everything agrees with me: the weather, the food and as for the wine, oh la la, heaven.

I sunbathed, splashed around in the pool, made friends with a donkey, played boules, swung on a swing as if I were five, danced in the garden, explored the beautiful local village oh, and my husband was there too! Did I mention it was our honeymoon….

I got a bit carried away with the hipstamatic application so please forgive me, but so much fun!!!

Have you been to Provence?

Did you like it?

 Style Tribes

by United Blogs of Benetton on: April 10th, 2010

So we’ve looked at the virtues of being cool in one city and square in another but what about the confines of your home town? How does your look go down in your neighborhood compared to that of a couple of miles away?

I feel and look at home in London’s Notting Hill and Kensington but if you put me in Shoreditch I stick out like a sore thumb – my clothes are too safe, my hair is too plain and I just don’t look like I belong. If I’m in Knightsbridge I’m not shi shi enough and as for me in the country apparently it’s obvious I am From London. I was up in Newcastle a few weeks ago and because I don’t wear much make-up you could spot me a mile away. Style Tribes – each to their own. As long as you’re comfortable in your own skin it doesn’t really matter does it…

Here are a few examples of people I have shot that in my opinion are great ambassadors for their neighborhood, the question is can you guess where they live by the way they dress?

What Does Style Mean To Me

by United Blogs of Benetton on: March 22nd, 2010

Style. It’s a word that gets bandied about a lot: I wish I had her style, she’s so stylish or …in the style of for example. Is style just a matter of looking good or being pretty? Of course not; it’s about so much more than that but to actually pin-point what style is, to really quantify the word is a matter of personal opinion. So on to me and my opinion: someone head to toe in designer clothes with immaculate make up and 500 dollar highlights (you know the type of lady I mean, every city has them) is what the term style over substance was invented for.

And what about the girls who have to have the handbag of the season, or the apartment with the right address? So you have a girl with the apartment, the clothes, the bag AND the highlights but of course this doesn’t guarantee style.

To be beautiful is not enough, to be rich is not enough but to be happy and comfortable with who you are, THAT to me is style (and of course a cool look won’t hurt either!) I guess what I am trying to say is that style is not entirely about how you look, it’s about who you are and what you choose to do with your time.

Yes, Chloe Sevigny and Erin Wasson have bucket loads of style but so does my seventy year old neighbour Maria who baked me a cheese cake yesterday because she thought I might like it. Thank you Maria!
Here are some photos that I have taken of people (for my blog) that I believe have true style:
